this is very enjoyable. dads rock. bsky.app/profile/paul...
In 2023 I became obsessed with videos of dads in cargo shortswaiting in parking lots during Taylor Swift's Eras Tour. So when she came to town, I grabbed a camera and headed down to talk to them. I thought it'd be funny. It turned out to be something else entirely.

hi friends, read this. Erin is working at the proper levels of abstraction; trying to find the right analogies to help us make sense of what is happening without being too prescriptive or concrete. a model of sense-making that generates more questions to help further our understanding. ❤️‍🔥
Happy holidays, Bluesky! I got you a megathrust earthquake, soil liquefaction, spine-tingling papers about the way our networks confound knowledge, and a PDF in a pear tree. It's my wrap on a year of trying to make sense of how we make sense of what's happening to us.

did the TBR roulette and grabbed "Curiosity Studies: A New Ecology of Knowledge" off my shelf and omg apparently "Ecology of knowledge" is a systems theory informed theory of how knowledge works that breaks down domain silos. and has existed since the 70's! who fuckin knew! (not me)

i'm reading Daston & Galison's "Objectivity" and I think they are gonna confirm my hypothesis that scientific objectivity was in part born out of a belief that the world was made by an omniscient being.

if you don't start there, scientific objectivity is way over emphasized.

Republicans always believe that trust and respect can be demanded and expected. It is a one way street of course, literally anyone else has numerous character attributes (identity lol) that mean they can be trusted or don't deserve respect. The only answer to them is an obstinate "why?"
During today's editorial call, Bari Weiss doubled down on pulling the CECOT segment while lashing out at Sharyn Alfonsi:

"The only newsroom that I'm interested in running is one where we are able to have contentious disagreements about the thorniest and editorial matters, and do so with respect."

i have a book outlined and partially researched that theorizes trauma is learning/adaptation, and that the way it manifests at a small scale (PTSD/CPTSD) is a pattern for how it manifests at large scale. It's a systems theory view of trauma. I sure would love to write that book.
