Once down to the last 12-16 birds, the world population of Seychelles Magpie Robin is now over 500. Not exactly safe, nor is it ever likely to be, but as long as it and its island habitat continues to be the focus of conservation efforts it will survive.

My present assignment is to report on one of the great success stories of species recovery, the formerly critically endangered Seychelles magpie robin. When the still critically endangered hawksbill turtle hatchlings need escorting to the sea, that's also part of the job. #naturewriting
