Feeling sad. Hubby left for Hawaii and I'm staying home because a sciatica attack at 40K feet over the Pacific, would result in me getting pushed out the door due to the screaming. Extra coffee for the pity party of one, please. At least I have these two to keep me company!

I'm going to be traveling soon, and I like to make little gifts for the flight crews when I fly. I found clear luggage tags that I could fill with small watercolor paintings. The owner can write their identifying information on the back. I have a lot of kitties to paint!

I started my own doodle book and filled it over the weekend. I grabbed all of my old Zentangle stuff and converted it all to WC. I can use it for inspiration whenever I don't know what to paint.

Good morning, Susan. 🌞It's overcast here in the TC, but I'm happy you have sunshine! Here is a picture of a bloom from a double hibiscus that was given to my grandmother around 1925-1930 as a "suitor" gift. It never fails to wow me! Sure, I'll take a cup with cream please. Have a great day!

Good morning! Bright sunshine and shaping up to be a beautiful day. My flower gardens have sure liked the rain, even if they're a bit ragged. I'll take a cup with cream, please. Hope you have a fantastic day!
163 gallon galvanized stock tank that has been converted into a self-wicking raised garden bed. Black-eyed susan vine climbs the trellis behind the tank, with pink sunpatiens in the center, and yellow and orange nasturtiums cascading over the front and sides. Several potted plants on various structures in a lush display of greenery. In the center is an 80 year old hibiscus that blooms double red flowers that look more like roses than common hibiscus flowers. A bay laurel tree is in a white pot in front, and a purple phalanopsis orchid is in the background.

"Stone Guardian" Watercolor of a sea turtle made out of stones. The palette for the painting is in the blues with accents of black, white, green, burnt sienna and purple. The turtle is swimming over the top of rocks that look the same as the rocks that the turtle is made out of. There is a downed tree branch in the water in the upper left corner. Shadows indicate that the light is coming from the upper left. Salt was added to the first layer of paint, combined with the paint's natural granulation, give the painting a lot of texture. I love granulating paints!! Wiggly stripes of white accent each rock.

I'm a watercolor painter. My second hobby is collecting and curating watercolor sets. My THIRD hobby is bookbinding. Now combined in the most boring book ever.

Read on for the thrilling tale
A homemade bound book. It has a blue fabric case, with the edges of the signatures visible at the bottom. Daniel Smith is written in white Posca marker on the cover. The front cover of the book is open and the viewer can see the end paper that has a small blue and green floral pattern. There is a label at the top that says, Daniel Smith Colors. Opposite the cover, you can see the first swatching page, all different variations of yellow. There are printouts with information about the key for reading the specifics about each dot of color from the dot cards. The book contains 9 sheets of paper that has been folded in half, forming a signature. The spine has 3 holes punched top and bottom, so that thin elastic is threaded through the holes. Each signature is slipped through a single piece of elastic. That way the signatures can easily be removed and replaced. This shows an interior view of the book. There are 16 different colors swatched in two rows of 8 swatches each... all in blues, and beginning to fade into greens. The book sits on a cluttered desk with a glue bottle, assorted brushes, scissors, a pencil and a couple of crumpled pieces of paper toweling that have been used for wiping brushes.

Good morning! Sipping my coffee on this cool, smoky day, while nerding out on Daniel Smith color charts. I bought a complete 266 color dot card set, cut apart each dot, and pasted it into the book I handmade. I'm gradually swatching out all of the colors. I'm learning so much about pigments!
Handmade elastic bound book for swatching out Daniel Smith watercolor paints. Each band retains an easily removable signature of two sheets of watercolor paper, pasted together with a hinge. These are the signatures that go into the book. One signature per elastic band. Each page surface is divided into 8 sections, so that a DS dot can be pasted into each section and swatched.

Side by side pieces of art. On the left is a colored pencil/line art drawing that my sister did for a card that she made, of the right half of an abstract butterfly. On the right, is my interpretation, done with Derwent Inktense watercolor pencils. I'm still quite the novice with that medium. The typical 'eyes' that appear in butterflies' or moths' wings are illustrated such that they look like three dimensional balls, with lines that represent the veins in the wings, leading into the balls. The left one is much more pale, reflecting the colored pencil medium. The right one has very intense colors. Both use hues of reds, purples, yellows, blues and greens. The one on the right is done on cheap multimedia paper, so the colors tend to be a bit more blotchy than they would have been on more expensive paper. The one on the left does a much better job of getting the 3D to pop.

I've been exploring some of my late sister's sketch books and using them for inspiration. I lost her almost 4 weeks ago. I'm using art to work through grief.
On the left is an ink sketch that my late sister did about 1 1/2-2years ago. On the right, is my interpretation, adding watercolor. Both sketches show ink drawings of a weathered wooden fence, with Hollyhocks & Purple Coneflowers in bloom behind them. The foreground shows little springs of grass sprouting up in front of the fence. In the ink drawing, there is a little bird on the fence on the right side. The watercolor interpretation is line & wash, so still using ink, but then color was added over the top. Green grass, various colors of red and pink Hollyhocks, and purple coneflowers, along with a blue sky. I think I did a pretty good job of staying true to the original drawing in my interpretation. I really miss exchanging art with my sister every day. This is as close as I can get now.

#Narrow lines in this tangle-like watercolor. Is it a quilt? Is it needlepoint? Is it stained glass?

Is it an expression of needing some control in a world that is out of control? 😆

Not my usual style, but it occupied my monkey brain for several hours.
A photo of a 10x7 watercolor, based on a ZenTangle pattern that I remember seeing once. It resembles the blocks in a quilt or blocks of stained glass. The background for each square is teal. The lines criss-crossing each square look like they are disappearing into the back of the piece, and are shades of purples, blues, and rose. The houtlines of each square are a rosy color. White lines divide each square into thirds. It's really difficult to describe your work, but it's a great exercise in trying to articulate what you've created. I'd like to see more artists do this!

My sister had emergency surgery yesterday, so I'm down visiting her. I have to see if I can wrangle the Hospice team today and get a plan of action in place. The hotel bills are stacking up, and I'm really quite a mess. But I have Princess Gracie with me, so that helps.
