MSP folks: Hedgeman was born and raised in Anoka and graduated from Hamline College before heading the Harlem YMCA, leading the National Council for a Permanent FEPC, becoming the 1st Black woman in a NYC mayoral cabinet and the only woman on the organizing committee of the 1963 March on Washington.
