What could happen is metra and cta could get together and reopen the existing bathroom in the Kensington station that’s been out of service for at least 15 years
December 19, 2025 at 5:40 PM
That may be CTAs? It’s the 4 bus terminus
December 19, 2025 at 5:35 PM
It is simply baffling that almost a decade and a half after the introduction of divvy there is still no station here. @davidpowe.bsky.social missed tagging you on my botched first post in this thread.

There are also existing public bike racks literally at the station (under the viaduct, covered form the elements). They are NOT designated edivvy points

Across the street is a block of surface car parking- I estimate for about 250 cars. The lot and street parking are regularly full (not here because of the date and time- but generally it is M-Th)

Kensington is the busiest Metra station on the south side, in the heart of the transit underserved community the $? billion dollar RLE is meant to help. It’s a 10 minute ride to Hyde Park, the most jobs rich area of the south side, and 25 minutes to Millenium Park.

Also Hyde Park/Lake Park

They also put one at 53rd and Lake Park.

I’d like to further congratulate the Chicagoans who live in the 2x2 4flats on their just squeaking into the city trash collection class. As a 5+ unit building resident, you better believe I resent the fuck out of your $9.50/mo waste hauling fee. Many 6-20 unit buildings pay more than $60/mo/unit!
December 17, 2025 at 5:15 AM
Which begs the question- is this a 4 flat or two townhomes? How was it originally occupied? I get that it looks like a double two flat but I suspect it may have been just 2 units? And still is?

affordable transit connected bike rentals have most of the benefits of microtransit (on demand, flexible destinations) without the same associated costs. Often the last mile or two is going to be done the other way in a few days, anyway.
December 10, 2025 at 4:32 PM
NITA's first microtransit solution should be an OV fiets style regional bike share connected to the Metra and Pace networks. Call it iNITAbike. Charge rates of <$10 day for up to 3 days with fees for returning to different location or keeping bike >72 hours. Give discounts to monthly pass holders

operations are obviously an issue, but even the best lanes with protected barriers are in the lowest, hardest to clear part of the road. Short of dedicated raised Copenhagen-style lanes, CDOT should consider using barriers to protect the center rather than the gutter bsky.app/profile/will...
Having just returned from Bogotá (where to be fair snow isn’t an issue but rain is), I say Chicago should pilot center running lanes somewhere. It’s very difficult to clear the lowest part of the road everywhere in conditions like we have now.

can you say again why Columbus-Ohio tunnel been deprioritized over Roosevelt-Clinton? pains me for among other reasons the horrible land use at for example Taylor & Clinton vs City Front plaza, and the huge concentration of jobs and residences in River east/streeterville compared to southwest loop.

It’s also true that people with higher incomes pay more in state income taxes! Doesn’t make it sufficiently progressive given the disparity, as you acknowledge. I for one welcome efforts to capture more revenue from the wealthiest. (also think garbage fees are too low, fwiw) bsky.app/profile/will...

I guess I just don’t find the framing of “city wealth disparity isn’t a thing” because “very particular and arbitrary nature of state law” compelling at all.
December 4, 2025 at 6:28 AM
How is the rich not paying their fair share not a problem at the city level? It may be difficult to address at the city level (I sympathize with your concerns re: head tax)- but that’s not the same thing as it not being a problem. It’s a problem that we can’t seem to figure out progressive revenue
