They DO grieve for their buddies. I had one who stopped eating after his long-time companion suddenly passed away. I had to get him a kitten to help him move on.

It's the usual More exercise needed with Less food intake. Do vet's understand that cats get vengeful when they think more food should be available but isn't?

I think it's impossible for GOOD teachers to care less. Instead, try to figure out a boundary line and don't allow students to go over it. Call in a more experienced colleague if you need to.
