A small extract from today’s Spending Review on local transport capital expenditure. We await more details, but guessing this is the planned single pot of funding that will combine BSIP and the Active Travel Fund outside the City Regions with elected mayors.

As I hate driving, tried going to regular ukulele jam on the train yesterday. I need to bring lots of stuff….two ukes…electric & normal. Amp. Wheelie suitcase with pedal board, leads, music stand etc. Small rucksack with work stuff. (1/3)

I need to look again at the numbers, but from memory, most transport CO2 emissions are from journeys over 5 miles, so if CO2 reduction is your primary objective, then those are the journeys that need to be targeted.

Switching just 1 trip a day from 🚗 to 🚴 or 🚶♂️ = almost 30% less transport CO2 for the ave UK urban resident. If 1 in 5 did this in 🇪🇺 it’d cut emissions from all 🚗 travel in 🇪🇺 by 8%. The potential impact of active travel on CO2 could be huge
