The ink had smudged a bit, but hopefully it was still readable. “How many days would you need for these?”

It hadn’t rained yet, but the sky promised a good storm, so they set up camp in a narrow cave, entrance guarded by thick, twisting roots. Queros waited for Torean to be asleep before approaching Miro. They’d settled down near the entrance of the cave, using the last remaining sunlight to sketch one of the creatures they’d encountered during the day — Miro loved documenting flora and fauna. Queros slumped next to them, watching Miro’s face as their pen scratched over the page. Their eyes had a slightly red hue, a muscle on their cheek twitching irregularly. A weariness wafted off of them, weighing down their strokes. Every now and then, they coughed, a raspy, unproductive cough. “Hey.” Queros kept his voice low. “You okay?” Miro sighed, glancing at Jagemir at the other end of the cave, then at the sleeping Torean. “Define okay.”
