Why do the media not follow up by explaining that the ECHR (convention) was simply an efficient way for UK to adopt the UN Human Rights principles? If UK did our own version it costs lots of money and ends up basically the same unless we leave the UN principles behind too...

I'd also like him to show me the stats for the increasing tax burden. I know it is simplistic but when I started work in 1989 the basic rate of income tax was 25%... I do now pay more tax, it is just that I'm fortunate enough to earn more money though in the main...

I'd be interested to read the data behind the headline Ms Truss is quoting. Changes in allowances means people change strategies, which could reduce the Govt CGT income perhaps for a limited time without it indicating any particular trend.
