Oh yes! The number of times I have been told I had given them too much money, and the puzzled look on their face when I tell them I’ve rounded it up so they can give me a £5 note or £1 change instead of a load of coins. 🙄

Oh that’s great. A whole family emigrating!
It’s amazing to think how almost 200 years ago, people were travelling to the other side of the world for a better life. I find it fascinating to imagine how different their lives would been if they had stayed in England. It’s the sliding doors moment.

I’m sure my maths skills were due to working in a greengrocers as a teenager. Had to add up the running total in my head, whilst working out the cost of each item by multiplying the weight by price per pound.
No electronic till - it looked like a typewriter with lots of keys to push down. 😁

Ooh I’ve been delving into my own German ancestry recently.
I have theories of where they originated, but need more corroborating evidence. Place of birth ‘Germany’ on the 1851 Census wasn’t exactly helpful 🙄
