Retired Navy, love nautical history, history in general, literature…and Snoopy!
That’s really cool! Is it based on his family or a story he wrote?

I’ve been there once briefly, need to go back. Fascinated by the border state units from Ky, Mo, Md and Wv that fought in the Confederate Army and the divided family aspect.

Thanks! I’m especially intrigued by children’s writers from outside the US/UK who grew up on English children’s stories, particularly in say India/Pakistan/Middle East/Asia where Britain once ruled who cite Narnia (or Tolkien) as a favorite/influence but may have misgivings on it as an adult.

Am reading this excellent account of the Japanese Navy and it devotes a lot of attention to the conversion from coal to oil in the never ending quest for more steam.

Huge Narnia fan, I’ll have to look for Katherine’s books now! Love Earthsea too, Dawn Treader is my favorite Narnia tale; as an old sailor I’m drawn to island and sea adventures.

Wish the Nagato had been preserved too…and the submarine that sank in 1910, was raised and kept as a memorial then destroyed after the war.

Hello professor, am very much interested in Japanese culture and history( big fan of whales too, my favorite book is Moby Dick!). I was curious in your readings on Japanese Christianity if you ever came across Admiral Shinjiro Yamamoto, a devout Catholic and advisor to Hirohito.
