Decreased regulation can increase the sentences received by individuals when the conduct reaches a level of criminality. It's simple - the problem goes for a longer period of time so the loss is greater and therefore the criminal sentence is higher.

So if DOGE does its cuts from the SEC and the CFPB - will we still see the 2024 SEC record of orders of $8.2 billion in financial remedies and "$19.6 billion in consumer relief" and “$5 billion in civil money penalties” from the CFPB?
