i think for every ea who does that there's one that's basically interested in laundering race science. totally get why philosophically you wanna think through the better version of the view but as a claim about what ea/rats are like... well it's stronger as a claim about what the best ones are like

i rushed them thru some readings of the painting after because it was just an example but i wish i could've probed them into more interest/appreciation of it organically. alas, we had to talk about aristotle and their midterms lmaoo

they were mostly haters. phil majors here are more likely to be stem and econ people than they are other humanities people so many had the background radiation hatred for anything remotely abstract or nonrepresentational. a lot of them had serious disdain for the ghost, which was interesting to me.

i think horny would make it in my top 3 painting emotions, and definitely top 8

this is maybe too charitable to them even. importantly most EA/rats do not actually do the empirical or quantitative work, the first pass is often vibes and also the only pass. and even when they do some empirical work, how that data relates to utils is pretty much vibes also. it's just an aesthetic

huge mistake to not make horny one of the emotions tbh

the thought of doing that for 630,000 paintings... you're going to get very good at knowing whether you're disgusted or afraid i guess. that's something

lmfaoo. just thinking through like any paintings i like and struggling to think what i would even tag them as. is fleeing ghost sadness? is drive in the knife fear? is kadinsky usually doing excitement?? idk it's hard to take the exercise seriously at all

*tagging my 100th consecutive painting of christ on the cross* uhhh fuck idk man. maybe disgust this time?

digital humanities scholar: i think this was a gross-ass scary era tbh

*at the Christmas Eve service* when do we get to the part where we recite the green man’s twenty-two vices?

i think the careful ones don't think that not being semantically evaluable means it's bad or useless or never felicitous. just not the kind of thing with a truth value

almost did the chorus but then realized that would mean i had to choose who was the girl and who was the boy and that'd be problematic

i feel utena is pessimistic about revolution in the sense that it changes the question — "is revolution possible?" "well show me that genuine love is possible first, then we'll talk." don't think the show is sure whether the yes to the second question answers the first, but it's the only way forward
November 14, 2025 at 6:11 PM
we no longer see utena and anthy as illuminated by (and in the shadow of) the planetarium projector, so *we* can't see them at all anymore, the show has to end. it's optimistic that we can come to see one another beyond pernicious illusions, but only by loving one another, not watching from outside.
