Working on a series of cryptid and mythical creatures large scale 18x24 paintings with marker and colored pencil. Working on these large pieces in between writing my books helps me stay balanced. What other creatures should I paint? #artists#kraken#mythicalcreatures#drawing #authorillustrator

I’m fascinated with the backstories of monsters and mythical creatures. I recently started reading about the tragic story of Medusa and was inspired to write and illustrate some of what I read. I’ve been imagining what it would be like to be in her shoes and how she might feel. #medusa#monsters

I’m so proud to be an indie author and I usually enjoy the process. However it definitely has its highs and lows and is a LOT of work. I’d love to hear how other creative author-illustrators stay motivated when it feels like your momentum is stalling. #childrensbook#indieauthor#childrensillustration

I’ve been creating a lot of work this year to build my portfolio, to increase the patterns in my Spoonflower shop and to work on creating more books. End of the year reflections and planning has got me thinking of ways to sustain this momentum without burning out. What practices have helped you?

I’m a botanical artist AND a children’s book creator looking to connect with my audience. People who like magic and monsters, color, nature, and plants! I’m influenced by my local environment of North Carolina and the stories I grew up hearing in the blue ridge mountains of Virginia.
