I made you a free placeholder texture

I feel this really captures the banality of genAI. At this moment in time, it seems to me the only value in creating another pong game is the act of learning how a basic video game is made (by making it yourself). Asking genAI to do that for you eliminates the only valuable thing about the task.

it's back. "Up to you" doing a lot of work here, I guess.

Ooh, maybe this helps. I right clicked the dumb side bar icon, then unchecked the AI checkbox, turned off side bar, then went to generic settings, searched AI, then turned off a few more unsolicited trash AI things, too.

No. Why? Kill it with fire.

Sometimes you just need to take apart your numpad and not put it back together until it looks like it's from a weird sci fi loading dock or something. Needs better key caps, though.

Great post! The Kung Fu 3 mod trailer was the reason I finally bought a full retail copy of Max Payne. This shot, specifically. I got out of my chair and drove to the game store and it was amazing.

There is a non-zero chance I am going to make a Skin Deep mod. This is a lot of fun to goof around in

The newest adorable member of my scale model video game goo shelf is the Walkie Talkie item from Skin Deep. It's roughly 1:4 scale, but that's just a wild guess because it's a fictional object to begin with.

Finished Skin Deep. I had loads of fun and would buy some DLC of more ship missions for 20 bucks in a second.

I hope these go on sale irl

The level of chaos and slapstick goofs in this game are great, too. I appreciate the cinematic cuts to show things getting serious (for you or for space pirates), and the event log and "fly mode" with event markers is great. Look at this poor sap who got nailed by a swordfish robot as I escaped. Hah

Some very good machine plates in Skin Deep. The cat memos are something I am actually reading and laughing at. There is a cat speaking in ye olde english, which feels like the correct level of silly.

This screen and HUD contents seems a bit insane as a static image, but it makes total sense in the moment. The chaos that can unfold in a matter of seconds is satisfying. Peeking through a door to make a move to shoot a space pirate and 10 seconds later the world is on fire 🙏

Still enjoying Skin Deep a lot. The diegetic ammo checks are excellent. I am failing at times, and enjoying every goofy second of my failures. Accidentally rack your shotgun in the vacuum of space? Sure. Bleed out trying to call off a search and hobble to the health station? Yes.

Look at this loading screen, it's delightful

Skin Deep is doing a lot of fun stuff. I smashed a guards head into the wall, not realizing that I broke the information station and thus could not save my game using that station without summoning repair bots and probably drawing more attention to myself. 10/10 no notes.

Skin Deep has some really fun Blendo stuff! All the weird little machines and terminals and signs are excellent so far.

Finished build. Canonically, "Office Complex Wooden Snack Vending Machine No 2, with broken glass". Note the extremely stupid easter egg on the back...incorrectly offset "soda soda pop" texture. Complete with "institutional 1950s floor wax swirls". I love it, melty soft edges included.

I can't really play old favourite games without examining everything. The "Ma" between the bunker door and the title card here works so well. You see all the bad signs and the weird skinless dead zombie guy, etc. Then have to break the lock and climb into the place you're not supposed to go. 👨‍🍳

(Quake 1 shareware slipgate variants, Left vs Right orientation)
April 6, 2025 at 4:22 PM
Hm, like the quake slipgate build, HL1 wooden snack machine comes in regular and reversed versions. I'm going to see which there are more of and make that one canon. I like the reversed one better (selection panel on right side)

Hm, yep, think I'm going to try making one of these...

I have always assumed that DR>BREEN was spelled with a '>' because holding shift and typing "DR. BREEN" skips '.' and types '>' and no one ever corrected it for the final texture.

I didn't realize it also came with this super beefy excellent case. (Had to test glow in the dark, it did not disappoint!)
