Birds are a little too real
Christ! I moved from Wales to London to get AWAY from the ravens and kites, not to find them both 5 minutes from my front door in zone 3!! #londonbirds

A nice surprise today with the first jack snipe I’ve ever seen at my local waterworks nature reserve, and putting on a very endearing show of bobbing #londonbirds

This juvenile coal tit - only the second we’ve ever ringed at the site - was my highlight from Walthamstow wetlands CES this morning, alongside 6 juvenile reed warblers - some very early breeding this year. Ringed under licence by @btobirds.bsky.social #londonbirds

@stellacreasy.bsky.social I’m glad you’re personally challenging some of the government’s policy, but starmer’s rhetoric today on immigration is beyond the pale. I won’t be knocking on any more doors for @teamlabouruk.bsky.social

The comic timing of Bluesky is off the charts this morning

This chiffchaff was ringed in Essex last year as a juvenile, and returned from the Mediterranean/North Africa last weekend to be caught again at Walthamstow wetlands. (Caught and handled under licence @btobirds.bsky.social ) #birdringing

This chciffchaff, first ringed in early march, is back to spend a second winter at Walthamstow wetlands. I wonder where it spent the summer? #londonbirds

This house sparrow, ringed under licence at @e17wetlands, looks rather like a 19th century army officer waiting to receive a medal for valour

At least 2 whinchat and 4 stonechat today on Walthamstow Marsh. I didn't get any photos so I asked chatgpt to help. Pretty good male stonechat, but its attempt at a whinchat looks like a cross between a female stonechat and a meadow pipit. #LondonBirds #BirdsArentReal.

Twitter/x/rentanazi had this incomplete Venn diagram. Now completed for those who have upgraded to bsky. (Would attribute the original but lost the link 😬)

Highlights from Walthamstow marsh this morning were a Tree Pipit on the deck and, in lieu of the hoped for wryneck, an anti racist takeover of the local cruising spot. #londonbirds
