And even those are not as large as the media has made it seem. But the media/Murdoch wedge on that crack was very real: Contain the left by bogging it down with cultural issues and then drive the double narrative: Labor is too left (for the traditionalists), and not left enough (for the purists).

I find this a “just so” expl. of how this model was established. IMO the capital picked what suited them out of proper academia then distorted, fed it and drove that wedge. This is just what took root, it wasn’t the only seed. It had to create self reinforcing vested interests if it was to succeed.

Indeed the premise feels wrong. But then it’s a Google LM output. It’s not demonstrable how the two paths are so incompatible with each other except at the extremes. It’s more likely that the media class threaded the needle to suppress threats to their interests rather than the other way around.
