In grad school, to help me critique toxic masculinity, I read Klaus Theweleit's work on masculinity and German fascism. His theoretical framework is dated, but I can learn from Theweleit's example of uncovering the anxieties, evasions, and weaknesses that foster such thuggish allegiance.
