We are surfers, sailors, divers, scientists, and activists on a hero’s journey to recover ocean plastic, restore habitat, and mitigate ocean warming & acidification.
Manatees in Jamaica are considered highly endangered, with a small, likely declining population estimated at only 14 to 30 individuals. eDNA studies could assess locations where manatees are difficult to visually identify (e.g., remote areas and/or dark water).

As if our oceans haven’t suffered enough at human hands, a new act of vandalism has damaged a fragile plate coral of Napaling Reef in the Philippines. We are outraged that someone vandalized a living coral reef with “JUST DIVE” graffiti. #WetTribe #TidetotheOcean

Corals need aggressive action on climate change and improved local management, or warm-water corals will not remain. We are also concerned that news regarding coral collapse will cause society to give up on coral reefs. The race is on to save coral! 🪸

Our research suggests that mangroves, in particular, provide lower-light environments that reduce bleaching stress on corals. They can also serve as alternative habitats for some coral species that can thrive in the lower pH and higher turbidity conditions.

Our Spirit Animal: We believe we can learn from beavers’ water management skills; a growing body of research shows that setting aside pockets of land for beavers is good for wetland ecosystems, biodiversity, and rivers.

Beavers are ecosystem engineers that transform their environment by building dams to create wetlands, thereby improving water quality, enhancing biodiversity, and helping mitigate climate change. #WetTribe #TidetotheOcean #WetlandWednesday

Oyster reef restoration can recover oyster densities to match those of healthy natural reefs. They filter the water and increase water clarity by extracting organic and inorganic particles. An adult oyster can filter as much as 50 gallons of water a day. #WetTribe #TidetotheOcean #Oysters
