The level of obfuscation from what are ostensibly public servants in this report is astonishing. Is the APS just filled with neoliberal rot to the point they all think they can stick ‘robo’ in front of anything to justify totalitarian cruelty?

When you can't escape the gnashing irrational self-harm of neo-liberalism no matter the stripes of government it seems pretty clear the call is probably coming from inside the house.

In the meantime Eucalyptus and Hims have become billion dollar businesses almost wholly on the back of GLP-1 supply shortages.

I will be interested to see how this changes when semaglutide comes off patent in the next few years, it might bring the price down to a level where it wont blow out the federal budget to list it on the PBS.
December 2, 2025 at 12:57 PM
I suspect the position will change as costs come down but as much as 40% of the Australian population could be eligible for GLP-1s based on the manufacturers prescribing guidelines. Similar numbers in the US and the current global production capability is maybe 15% of the demand for the US only.

I was at a conference back in July where a senior bureaucrat responsible for PBS listings indicated there is no plan to list GLP-1s on the PBS for anything other than diabetes. Basically the demand is so high it would potentially double the cost of running the PBS.

I dunno if it’s still the case now it’s been folded into GQ but I recall the scores were the average of the editorial team and were assigned after the written review was complete? Seems wild to single her out for a score she didn’t personally assign.

Can’t even do welfare for humans properly and yet we’re expected to consider the welfare of machines?

I’m inclined to join the Luddites more and more each day.

Can’t wait for the extended scene where they feed fish bones to pigs and some poor bastard is stuck drinking fish-flavoured milk.

So the unspoken conclusion here is that the record labels killed New Girl to keep their precious masters safe. It all makes sense now!

He’s early twenties and was able to get a visa via “the best” (read: the most expensive“ lawyer. Easy to go play tech founder when you’re backed by Daddy’s money.

Oh I missed that it’s child care for the Camp Hill executive set. Not for the poors.
September 20, 2025 at 9:24 PM
I’m sure their opt out plan is nonexistent given the massive shortage of childcare services in Brisbane. “Don’t want us building a giant surveillance dataset on your kid? Good luck, it’s wild out there.”

It was pretty clear when Emma’s “After America“ was published months ago. The problem is her book never addressed what the options were ‘after’.

Still astonished how often this happens. Have seen no fewer than three Schools of Education where HREC is completely ignored.

Good for you I guess?
September 2, 2025 at 12:08 PM
Nah that’s great. VMP would cost me $900AUD per year if it still shipped to Australia. $20 AUD is about what albums cost here on BC anyway. And the artist keeps more from Bandcamp. Or do you think the Artist should take a hit just because some editor decides to feature them?

Friction in that it required you to know what you wanted to listen to rather than showing you a bunch of advertisements for 'other things' to listen to like the Music app does now.

tl;dr: BC Clubs would really benefit from a truly great audio device that prioritises music. (5/5)

A machine that wants you to go listen/watch/play something else. Software / app UX can ameliorate this to an extent but iOS and Android are antagonistic at their core.

The iPod 'classic' was IMO a great device for this because it was a) music centric and b) the UI had enough friction... (4/?)

But the killer use case for the physical record club is that listening to the album is constrained; it happens on a hifi system with the materials the club provides to accompany it.

Listening to BC Club albums on a computer or phone means you're listening on a distraction machine... (3/?)
