after a trip to the burial mounds, xue yang ends up intaking too much resentful energy (even for him), which essentially causes him to explode lol. wen xun heals him as much as he can, but it's pretty traumatic. still, all's well that ends well, and in no time they're running around again 💖

and also despite being canon/oc and me just doing whatever the hell i wanted, the response at the time was fabulous and i am eternally grateful for it! if it ever hits another milestone, i'll draw another thank you piece like this one from way back :3

because i figured hey, bastards aren't exactly uncommon in the setting, it isn't implausible... and then it got way out of hand LMAO and xue yang ended up going from street rat (with ambiguous ties to some old evil guy) to proper cosmic prince of darkness... what is fic for if not fun

and the reasons they gave made sense at the time, for me, and i didn't want any drama, but cql xue yang and cql wen chao had proven to be like, very satisfying for me to draw and i didn't know what to do with all that creative energy. so i embraced my teenage self and made wen chao a half brother.

despite being canon/oc and only loosely based on cql, an adaptation i've never even watched fully, i put a disproportionate amount of love into it to craft a little character to pour my creativity into, since someone in my life at the time was displeased with me drawing xue yang with wen chao LOL

almost forgot the 'with my mind' bit. i think i can do it otherwise without developing any power
