Contractors love wasting money and frequently will use 8x as much lumber as needed so they don't have to carry it back to the truck when the job's done.

I say, let er rip.

I'm not trying to sound naive or incredulous... But idk I figured being a pedophile was a rare occurrence? And not like... Every rich person???

You've got the fixed spec of a console, so some amount of optimization etc will happen to make it work on the deck

But you can also do whatever you want with it.

Sick

.

The ergonomics of it are fantastic too. So comfy.I didn't realize how bad the sw1 was in comparison 😅

I'm linking to the person who coined the term, when they coined the term wdym.

It's fine that the more broad definition won, but Merriam Webster didn't coin the term.

Not sure, but it looks like Merriam Webster etc uses the more broad and less specific definition of enshittification, so it might just be a me thing 😅

It's not arbitrary. It's from where the term was coined. It even calls out Facebook specifically. I ditched Facebook and it wasn't that hard, but it would be for others. And I do miss out on some things for not being on Messenger

A key aspect of enshittification, to me, is lock in. You can stop going to McDonald's very easily. You can't as easily ditch Facebook or Windows. Enshittification preys on that.

(Also the dictionary is descriptive not prescriptive and misuse of words will end up in the dictionary, see: literally)

I guess I'm stuck on the original, more specific definition. Basically digital platforms attract users with a decent service etc and once you're stuck they make it worse and cost more etc because they know it's hard to leave.

Digital vs physical but an important aspect is the difficulty in getting away from the thing being enshittified. You can just stop going to McDonald's. It's harder to stop using Gmail or Facebook. I miss out on things by not using Facebook Messenger etc. You're not locked into eating at McDonald's.

Look up the definition of enshittification.
January 30, 2026 at 7:08 PM
It gets misused a lot to mean "thing bad".

"They're enshittifying McDonald's!"

"Wdym"

"Big Mac combo is like $20!"

I more mean charging for upgrades. I get real work goes into them etc but you'd figure "Nintendo tax" would get you a break on stuff like this. It's one thing to pay to upgrade a game that is $15 3 weeks after launch but Nintendo "never" goes on sale, so I think they can eat the cost.

Turns out there's a quest involving a crooked game of coin flicking.

Killed that mother fucker dead.
