I suspect that the manual suggests holding the Argus A like that so the forehead provides a third support point.

The gray card on the left came out the same as the black square on the right.
The red, green, and dark blue came out as very faint gray.
The splotch on the top of the negative is human error. Putting short pieces of film on a metal reel is a challenge. /2
