This is absolutely a classic case, for four primary reasons. Child sex trafficking perpetrators are primarily white merm with wealth and power. Epstein was, granted, among the uber rich and really powerful men. But power is relative to whatever context in which a child is being exploited. The most powerful person in a small town may not be a billionaire like Epstein, but they have disposable income and high socioeconomic status for the area, or they may hold a prominent position in government, church or a civic organization."

IN THE NEWS “The onerous cost of raising a family in Massachusetts is another challenge for a state that has struggled to hold onto younger workers, many who flee Massachusetts in search of lower costs of living. Young workers raising families not only contribute to the labor force, but also help propel the consumer-driven economy by buying homes, cars, furniture, and other goods and services. ‘[Families] are going to go to other places where it’s not so expensive to live,” said Wendy Robeson, senior research scientist at Wellesley Center for Women at Wellesley College, “and that’s bad for everybody.’”

“While several NGOs were able to negotiate terms allowing some of their female staff to continue working if accompanied by their “mahrams” (male guardians), there are significantly fewer women working as aid workers in Afghanistan today than was the case before the Taliban returned to power, observers say. The Taliban ban, some of them say, has made it harder for aid agencies operating in Afghanistan to reach women who need support during a disaster, like the recent earthquake. According to the UN, more than half of those killed or injured in the earthquake were women and girls.”

IN THE NEWS The summit featured 28 research posters, including the work of academics, research centers, graduate students, family child care providers, and center directors. “We put out a call for posters that had to meet three criteria,” Robeson, a senior research scientist at the Wellesley Centers for Women and a summit organizer, says. “The research had to focus on early childhood. There had to be a policy implication. And it had to have a Massachusetts focus. We received posters about urban development, medicine, education, public schools. It was wide open. That’s what made it so wonderful.”
