Listening to @sgj.bsky.social ‘s I Was a Teenage Slasher on Libby, superbly read by Michael Crouch. In addition to being the wild ride you’d expect from SGJ, this book is Texas (I grew up in San Antonio). I was a teenage horror writer in 1989 when the novel is set, and this book takes me back.

I bought this new graphic novel about B. Traven, whom I’ve always been fascinated by, and PM Press sent me a bunch of cool stickers, including these two by @nobonzo.bsky.social

Most of my published fiction is flash fiction, but this year I published a longer story in Lake Effect 28. It’s not only my 2nd time in Lake Effect but also the second time my name appears in the table of contents with Diane Williams, whose work has been a huge inspiration. Here’s the first page:

I feel so lucky to have been able to see him at the Salem Horrorfest in 2023, where he was interviewed by Andrea Subissati of the Faculty of Horror podcast. What an incredible actor.

Nails painted and eyeliner applied, it is time for me to teach on Halloween. We are talking about @sgj.bsky.social’s The Only Good Indians and that the wild ending of the first major section, “The House That Ran Red.” Happy Halloween, everyone!

Earlier tonight right outside my house in Greater Boston. (Brighter photo than what I could see with the naked eye, but I could still see the dark pink band across the sky, even with the light pollution. Never seen anything like it before.)

Howard Waldrop was one of the first writers who signed a book for me. I was 14, at a convention in San Antonio where I grew up. Everyone I met said I had to read “The Ugly Chickens,” and a book dealer was selling this hardcover so I snapped it up. I’ve been a huge fan ever since. RIP.
