Tonight, I'll be watching two of the finest cinematic examples of what happens when elected officials don't pay heed to those who deal with public safety and emergency management:

"Jaws" and "Jaws 2"

Playing @washingtonpost.com's one-question news quiz today, I was reminded of one of my favorite bits of presidential trivia.

John Tyler, 10th president of the United States, was born in 1790. Until last week, he had one living grandson.

Today's anniversary of the tornado outbreak that included tornadoes near Andover and El Dorado, Kansas, is a good time for a reminder:

This is my favorite role of his, even though he did make me tear up in "Maverick". I shall be rewatching in his honor.

#OnThisDay (3/25) in 1911, a fire broke out in the Triangle Shirtwaist Company factory, located on the 8th-10th floors of NYC's Asch Building. Due to inadequate escape routes (including locked doors), 146 workers died, most young women -- many fell or leapt. trianglefire.ilr.cornell.edu/index.html

My best friend knows me well. In 2021, I left my copy of a very important book on vacation. This Christmas, she gifted me an autographed copy. So, big thanks to her -- and to @samlmontano.bsky.social!

P.S.: If you haven't read this book, #greysky folks -- READ IT! And other people -- read it, too!

And also discussed on an episode of the Netflix series "Dirty Money".

(Yes, 2 days in a row with this in one of Kendra's threads, but any excuse to post this screen cap from the show describing my dream job...)

There's also an episode of the Netflix documentary series "Dirty Money" about it.

Been trying to do leisure reading amid all the studying; "Surgeon General's Warning" by Mike Stobbe is a fascinating look at the office of Surgeon General, its evolution over the years, and the ways it's been shaped -- and blunted -- by politics. #publichealth #surgeongeneral
