That’s the issue, his voter base is starting not to believe him. Last night was a political stunt paid for by the taxpayers to shore up his base.

It just grew from 10k to 12k of jobs in a few months, both figures are laughable.

I’m not a fan of “sponsored” trips for MPs, but given relations between Canada and Israel the PMO should have shut this trip down in favour of one that visited both sides.

Allenby is a major crossing now, lots of traffic and trade, it was very quiet in 85 when we crossed on our way to Petra.

Sadly, he was more brutal than his father. His father was president both times I served there, for the most part the country and Damascus was very safe.
I remember visiting UNDOF HQ in Damascus and getting grilled cheese sandwiches from Chez George just beside the HQ.

To think if he had of taken the King of Jordan’s advice at the start of the Arab Spring, he would still have Syria in one piece.

What a mess he created not only for Syrians, but the region writ large.

This is a smart move.
December 16, 2025 at 10:37 PM
I did read that they did no pre clearance and showing up on the Jordanian side of the Allanby bridge unannounced is problematic.

This was also a sponsored trip by a Cdn Muslim charity, I’m not sure diplomatically there is much to be done.

Maybe visiting both sides would be more helpful.
December 16, 2025 at 10:34 PM
I was just going to post that.
December 16, 2025 at 10:27 PM
What will that do?
Besides they were trying to enter from Jordan.
December 16, 2025 at 4:43 PM
Good, maybe next time they will properly plan their visit.
December 16, 2025 at 3:40 PM
She’s did really good.
Foolish to expect any of these hosts to get into an argument with whom they are interviewing. The answers speak for themselves and people will believe what they want.

That’s a great piece of history, I’m sure it wasn’t cheap back then to send a telegram either.

The size of our country doesnt help either, add in the deregulation of airlines making it much more affordable, the writing was on the wall for trains. Even Greyhound bus wasn’t profitable anymore.
December 15, 2025 at 11:14 PM
Yes it’s definitely more expensive when the whole family goes, it’s very sad that one gets “penalized” for taking an environmental option.

We’ve never done public transport well in Canada.
December 15, 2025 at 10:16 PM
Definitely more relaxing by train, depending where you are going in Toronto.
December 15, 2025 at 10:08 PM
That is bull shit.
December 15, 2025 at 2:44 PM
What a disgusting, ignorant take, spend some time to educate yourself.

The death rate of bomber crews was high.

Those are great mementos, but as they get passed on generationally they tend to get lost. However, I t’s great to see that you have kept a memory of him.

They were the greatest generation.

War Medal 1939-1945

Canadian Volunteer Service Medal w Bomber Command bar

Defence Medal (6 months in England)

I’m guessing he doesn’t qualify for the 39-45 Star.
If he was in Bomber Command for a day he’s entitled to that bar.

It’s a nice piece of history to have. I have my dad’s all mounted, I will put mine with his along with my wife’s and her grandfathers in a shadow box.
They don’t issue WW2 medals anymore, so if you want to make a set of your uncle’s you’d have to shop online or it flea markets.
December 14, 2025 at 1:08 AM
I think you will find on average Canadians pay higher taxes than Americans.
December 13, 2025 at 11:40 PM
Just more musical drama.
December 13, 2025 at 11:33 PM
Very sad, I life lost so young.
Did anyone in the family apply for his medals?

Healthcare in the states is a prime example of needing governorship and enforced rules.
December 13, 2025 at 4:13 PM
I’m not sure if that’s entirely correct there are a lot of good republicans and conservatives out there. The problem is we’ve divided our selves by chasing policies that appeal to the far end of political spectrums.
Democrats and liberals are both guilty of this.
December 13, 2025 at 4:11 PM
I notice on some US rail sites, consideration for hooking Toronto into northern states high speed rail network is made.

The train that goes to Vancouver is predominantly for tourism and is definitely not cheap, but on my bucket list.
