Wind and solar additions first surged and then slumped due to a new pricing policy that took effect in June. 2025 is still on track to a new record, with 253 GW solar and 70 GW wind added year-to-date, up 40% and 50% year-on-year, respectively.

Thermal power (~coal and gas) additions have continued at a frantic pace, with 11 GW added in net terms in October and 70 GW year-to-date. This is a result of the wave of permits issued since 2020.
