@waterfox.net
The Waterfox web browser.
It’s all customisable! You can go to Settings > Look and Feel and mess around, disable Waterfox’s customisations etc

What kind of modernisation do you mean?

Android is on a different versioning! 1.1.8 will be released for it soon

I've heard Waterfox is great 👀

Hmm that shouldn’t be appearing either! I’ve flagged down the code for where this happens and will see why it’s popping up. Thanks for bringing it to my attention!

Thanks for flagging that! That checkbox shouldn’t be enabled by default, but have you gotten that summarisation even with it unchecked?

I usually let users re-enable stuff I enable by default, for user choice but sometimes that means some things slip through the cracks

Accessed via `about:config` or `about:cfg` in the address bar, whichever interface you prefer

Is it the `browser.download.alwaysOpenPanel` preference? You can try setting it to `false`

Ah glad we found the issue, but concerning the old profiles aren’t working! Should’ve been a graceful “upgrade”. Do you know if there was any sensitive/personal data in the old not working profiles? Would be good to be able to reproduce the issue and see what was causing it!

Hmm, maybe Windows key + R to open up the run box, then `waterfox -ProfileManager`, to create a new profile?

Are you able to press Ctrl + Shift + J to get the browser console to open? Is there any output there?

Oh my! Fresh install on Windows?

For Android `1.1.6`/`1.1.7`, this also brings a reversion to the default search (unless you've modified it yourself), alongside MFSA 2025-88 security fixes and a startup crash/ANR fix.

Since my last OS install I'd lazily just used the already installed FF, but looks like it's time to switch back to @waterfox.net

All my Linux laptops use @waterfox.net

It's Firefox ESR with all the telemetry and other objectionable junk turned off. And it works with a global menu bar, which Firefox doesn't any more.

Oh wow! Probably about ~3 years of security and web compatibility updates?

Me personally, I like @waterfox.net -- it works with global menu bars properly, too.

Anyone looking for an alternative, I'd direct you to Waterfox Private Search! It's a meta-search that I built which is subscription based. That means no ads, no tracking and NO AI summaries taking away traffic from web creators: search.waterfox.net

There's no iOS browser as of yet, still waiting for Apple to allow 3rd party browser engines!
