Apparently bluesky doesn't like underscores?
Vincent has an important supporting role in Fear And Loathing In Las Vegas.

(and yes, it's just a brand and model of motorcycle)

One morally neutral point I found interesting (by an author talking about her book on Chris Hayes's podcast) was that, even without any meddling intent, to get more funding a chatbot must impress a bunch of tech executives who are mostly male native English speakers with shared interests and biases.

Bless you for the alt text, I could tell there was a joke involving the rapid series of one day placements and their somewhat dubious job titles but not what the joke was.

And also, especially, to be bigoted against actual Jewish people, because as a good Judeo-Christian you know and understand their story while they clearly do not.

Yeah, the online Black Friday sales haven't waited for after Thanksgiving for awhile. But the in-store discount events and especially the obnoxious "doorbusters" so beloved of local news coverage are still contingent on the actual day after Thanksgiving.

Yeah I've seen that, it makes no damned sense.

On the other hand, Northern Europe has imported Halloween, a holiday about chocolate and the occasional costume or pumpkin, quite successfully.

That's how Gingrich came to power, but in office he (and more importantly Bob Dole) were more conventionally transactional than that. The House GOP only came up with the Hastert Rule (no GOP House member is supposed to vote for anything unless the whole GOP House caucus supports it) after Newt.

When Obama was elected Mitch McConnell brought a new thing into our nation's politics, a sort of weaponized nihilism: he didn't care how much the nation suffered, so long as it hurt Obama. He literally told his caucus that their only goal must be for Obama to be a failed President, at any price.

What could epitomize Thanksgiving more than a burnt offering to the Gods?

The fun critique of Diamond though is that when he conducted actual athropological research he got it all wrong, at least in part because he was a credulous rube (or worse, of course), he reported as true all sorts of lurid stories that weren't, and described events that never happened.

Huh. I haven't visited the site in a couple of years except to check on some tweet people are talking about, I was going on what I'd repeatedly seen said on here.

(when the judge was kinda incredulous about that last part the lawyer revised their description of events somewhat, maybe they took the statement down themselves as dictation rather than being handed it, they had the ability to change or alter the statement - but probably they didn't alter a comma)

There were other people on the call, but as described (in someone's live-tweeting, I didn't read the transcript) there were no questions asked by anyone, just a brief lecture by the State Dept guy.

Also, lawyer said they were handed the declaration of facts they submitted already written for them.

As I recall, the latest schmuck who agreed to go into court and then say they didn't know anything, they weren't involved, they got summoned from across the country and shoved into the courtroom, said everything they knew was some State Dept guy talking at them uninterruped for 5 minutes over Teams.
November 23, 2025 at 8:43 PM
I remember when lawyers weren't supposed to do that.

Theme song still starts "na na na na na na" except it's pronounced more like "nah" each time.

Twitter already killed the feature. It was too embarrassing when people could see so many passionately patriotic red meat accounts (not just supposed Americans, accounts advocating the worst nationalist ideas of various countries) were actually just people far away posting to make money from views.

You don't even need to unwrap it first, that won't make any difference to the result.

Natural confusion, they heard that sex (trafficking) over 18 is legal and wanted to stop it in the nick of time.

That would not quickly address the ongoing subsidence problem from emptying the local water table, I think? That seems like it's now baked in.

It would save lives. Hopefully they'll do *something* to save lives.

"as British, I am obliged to point out that is not a biscuit. It is in fact a barmcake." - disputatious, will be perceived as obnoxious.

"as British, I am intrigued to point out that looks a lot like what we call a barmcake." - uninteresting at worst, might spark a conversation.
