Tax avoidance can be legal. Doesn't make it morally right.

And that is why some legal tax avoidance schemes are closed down (even if previously set up by a government) and others have the law changed to close the loopholes people exploit.

Probably because most don't understand it, as I'm finding out on here and on Threads today.

Question: how much do you personally pay or expect to pay in to affected salary sacrifice schemes each year?
November 29, 2025 at 1:23 PM
All have been mentioned in either the Budget statements or spring statement. Some in a lot more detail than others.

But full details are available for people who look, which is how those of us who talk about them know about them and the details!

It affects about 6% of people paying into pensions.

Many by just a few pounds a year.

It's mostly aimed at those on huge salaries you pay thousands into their pensions to avoid tax.

Your comment suggests a fundamental misunderstanding.

The more you earn and the higher the percentage of earnings you can afford to pay into your pensions, the more you pay in extra NI.

This skew makes this another type of wealth tax!

(Numbers all based on estimates and assumptions - happy to hear other people's calculations on this.)

...and 7.5% of private sector workers - who both use salary sacrifice schemes and pay enough to be affected.

And by how much? £50k earnings see someone pay about £50 a year more.

Rises to £1.3k for someone on £100k & £2.8k for someone on £150k.
