I feel same thing about the reverse: If your fantasy/sci-fi race does not eat/drink it lacks a huge cultural (and sometimes even mechanical) connection to the world. I wonder if it's replaced by something - not in a shallow way (e.g. you eat <insert strange thign>) if it's not to alien to parse...
