As noted by Wikipedia co-founder Larry Sanger, this heinous list majorly impacts Wikipedia’s biased “Neutral Point of View” policy (NPOV). Sanger has blasted Wikipedia’s current NPOV policy since it is limited to “significant views” published by “reliable sources on a topic,” and gives editors leave to dismiss views they label “fringe” or “minority.” And even the list editors use for “reliable sources on a topic” is heavily tilted to the left.

the post-sale coverage here is funny bc like, this is just not true! and the museum has sold off a *lot* of work between 1987 and today, and some of those sales were way more objectionable than this one imo.
The last time the museum deaccessioned, or sold, a work, Liza Phillips said, was in 1987 when her father was director; the piece was one by Georges Braque that had not been collected by Duncan and Marjorie Phillips themselves.

but the show got exactly 2 (two) full reviews, one of them on a blog, one of them headlined that the show was "not as bad as you may have heard". that feels like the opposite of a hit!

The American artists has recently broken a long silence with major gallery shows in New York - and the reaction hints at her work's continuing relevance." [Below the headline is a photograph of a young Cady Noland on the streets of New York in a phonebooth.] The scale and volume of the new work in her most recent Gagosian exhibition dwarfed those two shows. Its checklist contained 38 entries, and all but two were made this year. The show was a hit. The Art Newspaper understands that many of the works (most priced in groups from around $100,000 to over $2m) were placed with major private collectors and institutions. More surprising, however, was the show’s enthusiastic reception by younger fans, who have known Noland mostly, if not entirely, as a mythic figure. The next generation of collectors “flocked to” the Gagosian show, says Wendy Cromwell, a New York-based art adviser, and it resonated powerfully with young artists. “Controlling her own narrative by recusal from gallery shows, which gave Cady agency as an artist, has immense appeal right now to young artists figuring out how to navigate the marketplace,” Cromwell says. The relevance of Noland’s core themes probably also plays a role in her intergenerational appeal, according to Rob Teeters, the founder of the advisory firm Front Desk Apparatus. In the US, he says, “gun control and violence or the distribution of wealth and power” are all topics “at the forefront of younger generations’ concerns”.

Eric N. Mack's "Cartouche" (2025), a series of brightly patterned and colored fabrics stretched between two parallel wires running between neoclassical buildings in a courtyard. Eric N. Mack's "Pocket watch and chain" (2025), a set of stainless steel rods, possibly for a wall-mounted umbrella, adorned with an array of patterned hanging fabric, some cut and sewn together and some coiled to form ropes of textile between and among the bars. Eric N. Mack's "A truer before / Cape" (2025), a set of stainless steel bars forming a wide armature against a wall with a set of curving, almost armlike bars stretching forward, all draped in a red and yellow striped sheer fabric, appearing alternately like a figure with arms spread or an abstracted mantis ready to strike. Several works by Eric N. Mack, all comprising various fabrics stretched like paintings, hanging from the vaulted ceiling, or arranged over metal armatures.

also it should have been obvious but I just learned that Senga Nengudi makes exhibition copies of her R.S.V.P. sculptures. would love to know if the Hirshhorn has been exhibiting a copy when they've shown it recently or if they show the "real" thing (which itself is a refabrication from 2014)

In 1975, while observing changes in her physical form during pregnancy, Nengudi began her sculpture series R.S.V.P., kinetic formations of nylon pantyhose and sand tethered to the walls, floor, or ceiling, and stretched like skin. Nengudi has described the series as a "conceptual manifestation of the changes a body/form can endure and how much elasticity is left after the pulling and tension cease." On many occasions, Nengudi has invited select performers to dance with the piece, as if answering the series title's call to respond-répondez s'il vout plait (respond if you please). Hassinger has long been a primary partner in the series, and R.S.V.P. X is one of two sculptures that she has previously performed with. Hidden in one of the nylon pouches are dried rose petals, remnants of a flower that Hassinger also uses in her own work." Senga Nengudi's R.S.V.P. X (1976/refabricated 2014, exhibition copy) at the Pizzuti Collection in Columbus, Ohio. Several pays of brown pantyhose are stretched across the corner of a gallery space, creating a vaguely figurative outline that appears to be bending forward at the feet at a steep angle. The fabric is anchored to the walls at two points with nails, stretching the gap of the corner, and via two weighted sections of fabric on the floor which are filled with sand and rose petals. Another tied section of fabric in the center of the work is filled with the same materials, hanging down from the central point where the fabrics meet.
