Hello!. Today in “One day, one paper”, tropical forest clearance impacts biodiversity and function, whereas logging changes structure. Logging affected the environment, but biodiversity and ecosystem functions only showed strong responses to total forest conversion 🌎🍁

A drop of field studies is also due to it slow nature and the shift to publishing more papers quickly and big impact papers that require a lot of data. Creating, processing, and analyzing new data takes a lot of time, and depends on people, which is costly.

Extinction of experience among ecologists
Fieldwork-based research and education in ecology are under multiple threats and are progressively declining. We call for greater attention to this ongoing loss of direct field experience within the ecology community, as it could have widespread consequences for science and education, ultimately hindering efforts to address the ongoing biodiversity crisis.
