good article but not really surprising or eye opening, if you are tuned into Desi politics, it’s bog standard age old communalism you see everywhere in S Asia. I honestly there is much of a theology discussion to be had other than ethnic, religious, historical nationalism and Econ discontent

Nah. Hindu religious politics definitely points people one way politically IMO but plenty of people are just traditionally hardline conservative. India is a conservative place after all, parents are like that and so will their kids. I also know conservative people who voted Obama and continue Dem

Feel like there are plenty of conservative Indian Americans. Also personally know the type, ambitious without morals lol. Or if they had ideals it’s very conservative and super ceded for chasing power and prestige. Yet plenty liberal Indian as well. Everyone’s subject to US media polarization

I also think nature of info bubbles and all that, people are underrating the racism being brought up for Mamdani. Not happy to see Cuomo darken his beard and shit, considering I an Indian Hindu look similar to Mamdani, the beard doesn’t make him Muslim, he’s just a hairy Indian man.

problem is that people def underrate the amount of actually anti semitic people are out there. Always have been very liberal pro-human rights for all on Isr/Pal and incorrectly assumed all Americans shared my feeling until I saw some of the initial reaction to 10/7 which was not great to say least

The recent elections and the fact that no one is serious about ending the shutdown should give senate Dems pause on caving in. They need to keep fighting and I’m glad it seems the caucus doesn’t want to give up yet

I just feel like I can’t really comment on Jewish inter politics since I naturally won’t understand everything, not apart of the that world. But I can comment on Desi Indian Pakistani religious politics and feel like you can’t really understand Zohran w/o understanding that

I try not to talk Gaza Israel politics with them we have radically different POV. But I’ve seen some of the more unhinged anti semitic shit people have told to my buddies, so I get it. But a very large lack of introspection on their part to think about Israeli policy, willfully ignorant?

Friend group includes some Jewish friends from a more conservative fam, and they don’t necessarily think criticism of Israel is bad but there is a fine line and they feel Zohran is definitely a Hamas supporter. Conflicted considering I understand the Indian post colonial aspect of his fathers work
