I didn't manage to finish it in time before seeing OBAA but it did have more meat to its bones and more of an interesting setting. Did you think PTA managed to capture Pynchon's weirdness with Inherent Vice?

I guess the occasional comedic elements can make up the both sideism for most of the viewers. I’ve tried to think why people have latched onto the film after seeing it despite agreeing with your and Austin English’s takes on it.

OBAA was fun, entertaining and elicited some feeling here and there, but ultimately: a movie about politics with zero politics and tons of car chases, cheap ending, tons of work put into basically nothing.

I just watched it for the first time. I remembered this thread while watching and I didn't disagree while watching and after. In a way I'm kind of baffled by the reception but at the same I am not.

Interesting. Some of Bagge's and Beto's DC/Vertigo projects were collected by Fanta (and Grip by Dark Horse) but not anyone's from DH/D&Q. Was Patheon seen as a "poacher"? In the aughts they published titles serialized by Fanta/their artist or were they different for some reason?

That was at the time when Fanta couldn’t fund all of the regular Fanta guys’ (Bagge, Beto, Clowes and etc.) projects so D&Q and Dark Horse published their comics
