Walk and Roll Houston
@walkrollhouston.bsky.social
To create a city where Houstonians can walk and roll, safely and easily, as we need. A 501(c)(3) community organization. www.walkandrollhouston.com
The headline says it all. Whitmire's TIRZ board erased key safety improvements.

Another project radically changed to make it worse. At a cost of $223,000.

Who does this sound like?

Why are we screenshoting a post from Whitmire's TIRZ board? Because they don't allow comments. Because they don't actually care what we want.
The nut doesn't fall far from the tree!
Send in those comments - we've made it easy for you

We can make this happen!

Send your email now to tell the city what the community wants.

Thrilled Houston Public Works has accelerated this repair but the detours here are terrible.
Harris County Precinct 2 @adriangarciahtx.bsky.social
is working on an amazing connector here but it's not complete.
The community could use some help here!

In a huge win for the community, Whitmire's TIRZ board has quietly changed the lane widths for W. Alabama!
We made the point loud and clear that 12' lanes are for freeways, not our neighborhoods.
@NACTO says 10' should be the standard here.

Fantastic job by District C @abbiekamin.bsky.social to get the 11th Street bike lane and sidewalk cleaned up after @ATT left it unusable for weeks!

Before and After

And the Fourth Ward TIRZ meeting on Tuesday, 09/23 at 4 pm. The Fourth Ward TIRZ is funding the project but has yet to put a plan together. They need to hear from the community!
September 6, 2025 at 5:15 PM
Please join the next Fourth Ward Super Neighborhood meeting on 09/18 at 6 pm.
September 6, 2025 at 5:15 PM
4th Ward is a community surrounded by streets on the High Injury Network and a freeway. We are here to help them get sidewalks and crosswalks at two schools fixed!
And we need your help too.

Looking at Telephone Rd which carries 7,000 cars. 7 schools in the area. A failure to represent the community by @JMartinez4Hou and Harrisburg TIRZ.

Whitmire and Gafrick have abused their power to force 4 and 6 lane roads through our neighborhoods.

When Emmanuel Molina was killed in a crosswalk, we held a press conference, invited the council member and spoke with her, emailed AND spoke about it at city council. NOTHING.

Our full remarks here.

Today I went to the H-GAC board meeting to explain that Gafrick's "guiding mobility principles" is a meaningless, ridiculous phrase.

When the media quotes it without context, it's publishing propaganda. Knock it off.

What is this you ask? This is some very fine tactical urbanism.
It's taken us years to make this speedy frontage road safer to cross.
August 18, 2025 at 7:02 PM
Hit the road Matt! About 50 people here! Parody is much needed for our mental health after the nightmare of Whitmire's Montrose TIRZ board.

When Jordan says take his proposals, he means it. We urge all of the candidates, for all races, to take a look at this platform.
Houstonians deserve a city where we can all walk and roll, safely and easily, as we need.

When all you have is a hammer, everything looks like a nail.
The Mayor loves to ban our stuff. This isn't governing.
We'll be at the first evening City Council meeting on 08/26 at 6 pm to tell them hands off our scooters.

Whitmire wants to ban our freedom of mobility.
Constantly gaslighting us that cars are necessity and everything else is for recreation. Don't fall for it.
Use your freedom of mobility to tell City Council on August 26th at 6 pm to focus on real problems. www.walkandrollhouston.com/speak-at-cit...

The Mayor makes sh*t up all the time. Remember 900 murderers? This time we submitted a TPIA to get the poll.
Surprise! Nothing.
@unitedairline.bsky.social Not a good look for it to be used to pass an ordinance criminalizing the homeless but it's not publicly available.
August 9, 2025 at 6:52 PM
Waking up to this awful news. While the Mayor talks about public safety, it's clear it doesn't include all of us.
The Mayor and Mark Jones at Rice must retract their many statements that mislead Houstonians into thinking people only bike for recreation so we don't matter.
August 8, 2025 at 3:10 PM
Still waiting for HPW to address. Several 311's submitted.
If AT&T is responsible, why has the city let it drag on?
Well known the Mayor hates the 11th Street Safety Project.
But not as much as we hate it when the disabled are run over. @abbiekamin.bsky.social

Given that HISD expanded the range to 3 miles where buses will not pick up students, this seems like a no brainer. School pick up zones are the worst.
August 6, 2025 at 3:58 PM
Shocking that this isn't a huge scandal.

The amount of money he's wasted is staggering.
