I remember reading, “The Queen’s Necklace” by Dumas, in French class. My teacher told us the quote was “bread” not “cake” & made by a different aristocrat. However, Rousseau’s “Confessions” is actually what “Let them eat cake” is misquoted from & predates Marie Antionette’s reign.
