Act One finished!

Started writing my new single-camera sitcom pilot today. I came up with the premise last year but thought of a new angle recently that makes it unique.

Can’t wait to see where this goes.

When I worked on #TheOffice, Greg Daniels had a list of questions he asked of every story. Some were show-specific (eg “Are we saying something truthful if exaggerated about office life?”), but many are applicable to any script. Here’s a 🧵 on them…

Posted my It’s Always Sunny In Philadelphia spec script on Reddit.

The responses:

-“Hilarious.”

-“Insanely good. This would make a classic episode.”

-“You nailed it.”

-“I could’ve sworn this was an actual leaked script from an upcoming episode.”

Anybody want to read it?

Found out my IMDB profile wrongly linked a negative news article to me, because it happened to mention (non-negatively) the Bollywood actor with the same name.

I’m an American screenwriter who lives 10,000 miles away from India. 🤦‍♂️

IMDB can’t tell the difference between us: 😂

Rewatched this 97-year-old classic on Buster Keaton’s 130th birthday. Simply insane action set pieces, especially for that era and with the technology available.

And somebody on Letterboxd accurately called it “Mad Max: Fury Railroad”. 😂

Great week of movies. A classic comedy, a new comedy, and my first two Abbas Kiarostami films.

Loved this movie. Packed with jokes and gags, most of which weren’t in the trailers. I had to rewind so many times to catch all of them. 🔥

Finished my spec script for It’s Always Sunny In Philadelphia in 9 days! 😎

My first TV spec and my first attempt at pure comedy instead of mixing it with other genres.

Already knocked out the 4-page cold open for my It’s Always Sunny In Philadelphia spec. 😎

I’ve watched every episode multiple times, so it’s practically in my DNA now.

Spent the last two days:

1) Trying to convert my horror comedy feature into a 20-page short for the Killer Shorts contest.

2) Outlining a stunt spec for It’s Always Sunny In Philadelphia.

Too many ideas, too little time. What’s everyone working on?

Our social media person spent way too long putting this together while giggling, so we have to know: where do you land on the screenwriting alignment chart?

Are you keyboard cat good, or "I wrote it in my head but haven't opened Celtx in a month" evil?

Just found out there was a fourth season of Abbott Elementary. I thought there were only three. I know what I’m watching this week. 😎

For #Spectember, I’m going to finish the first draft of my WIP, polish an old script, and rewrite part of a finished script. How about you, #scriptsky?

Went down a Wikipedia rabbit hole researching double-landlocked countries and ended up buying a book about The Mutiny on The Bounty. 😂

I posted about this script on Reddit yesterday. 170+ upvotes and multiple requests from fellow writers. Plus a couple of industry downloads. 😳

My horror drama-thriller KILLING FLOOR was selected as one of August’s three Featured scripts on The Black List!

From a BL review: “A fresh voice in the horror world, putting a spin on the workplace drama... there’s not anything quite like it in the current marketplace.”

Currently reading this very illuminating book, because screenwriters should also understand the business side of the industry. Check it out if you haven’t.

Pacing isn't speed, it's rhythm.

Cut scenes before they overstay.

Linger where emotion needs breath.

Shift gears to keep surprise alive.

Word choice is important.

Master pacing to control reader's time. 2hrs will feel like 15m.

Or fail, and a 5m scene will feel like 30.
