Opinions my own
As a big fan of the indicatrix in mineralogy (much to my student's chagrin), I approve! What a creative way to visualize complex data.

Do they not understand observational science requires the ability to observe reality?
(Of course they don't...)

Thanks Tim. @planet.com imagery from Nov 24 show some subsidence in the southern half of the Erta Ale caldera after the #HayliGubbi eruption (plus widespread ash deposits).

That implies a fundamental change in the relationship of the Secretary of Health and Human Services and that should be analyzed, fought back against, and publicly condemned.

I’d have to go back and check the sources I’m thinking of, but sub 50 km depth quite close to the trench, places like the serpentinite mud volcanoes you find in the Marianas

That being said, I respect the heck out of the authors on that paper (and other recent pro-slab meting papers) so I think I need to dig in and give my intuitive skepticism a chance to warm up to the newer models

I was being flippant; the models of slab melting today are not the outdated idea we are melting eclogite or some such silliness.

Even then my geochemical eyebrow raises a bit at the suggestion arc volcanoes are being influenced by slab melting - forearc sure but less sure about the main arc…
