I totally get the reaction to what seems like people complaining about paying per se but I think it most cases it's not about that--it's how it's presented (and I don't blame people for presenting it that way!)

I agree there's no need to apologize--but I also think frustation is understandable here. Not about the principle of having to pay, but how it feels to think you're being asked to carry on a conversation and then to pay for the right to do so.

There are also used to be something about the way hairstyles etc trended that seemed to mark people more. Like if you watched 80's dating game reruns 20 years later those 23-year-old contestants looked 40 because people stuck with those looks.

I hear you. Maybe there are compromises where you don't have to give it up entirely but as someone with all-or-nothing tendencies myself my view is it may not be worth all the effort and cutting it off entirely may be simpler, easier, better. Would miss you on here though
