Well, to answer that with what I've been listening to lately...

Thank you @fawnduu.com for signing my Trans Pride Olive plush! Olive has brought me a lot of joy and now she'll bring even MORE of it!! 💖 🏳️‍⚧️

We finished the set last night. May it summon the Switch 2 in a reasonable time frame. 🙏

There was, back in November 2024 on Makeship! Soon as I saw the sample at NYCC, I knew I had to get it.

...so much so that I was the first person to place an order! LOL

One more member of the crew - @parkdalecryptid.bsky.social has done the wonderful character and environment art you'll find in Susurrae - just look at the album art as an example! Can't wait for y'all to see more. 💖

Someone pointed this out on Twitter, so I can't take credit for this, but Toad's Kart in this screenshot? LITERALLY the Monster car! I love it!!

Switch 2 is incoming, and the new Mario Kart looks gorgeous! Look at that Mario model! It's the platonic ideal of Mario! And the new Standard Kart reminds me a lot of the Monster car from Famicom Grand Prix II: 3D Hot Rally!

Game #39: Mom Hid My Game! 2

Ended 2022 with the first one, and this one is more of the same - a series of inventory puzzles you can finish within an hour. The increasingly absurd gag of your mom hiding the game system is the real star. If you find that idea funny, you'll have a decent time.

Game #38: The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom

Solid proof that you can mix the classic top-down Zelda structure with the open "mess with your tools" fun of the recent 3D Zeldas. It's pretty dang charming, too. I'm eager to see more experiments like this - and more of Zelda in the lead role!

Game #37: Pokémon Emerald Legacy

The finale of a hack series polishing up classic Pokémon games. With so much competition, it's not necessarily the best way to play Hoenn, but it's a really good one.

Game #34: Pokémon Brown 20th Anniversary Edition

The level design and story may have cracks, but Brown is still an ambitious & impressive Pokémon hack, especially for its time. This update brings significant mechanical & visual improvements. I'm glad I waited to try it!

Game #33: Kitsune Tails

It's Sapphic Mario, Babes! The strong facsimile of Mario's platforming mechanics initially drew me in. What kept me going were the refreshing (and queer) story line and a bevy of new mechanics introduced at the halfway mark.

For real!! There's lots of fun fits. I feel like the Peach megafans would have a field day with these two in particular.

Perhaps, but...do you have the power of CURLING RICK???

16. Splatoon 3

I could pick any of them, but the 3rd one is the one I put the most time into. This series is special to me, the one multiplayer shooter I got into. Love the mechanics, the story & world, the single player modes, and the music especially.

15. Celeste

What? The trans woman loves Celeste? Shocking, I know.

Celeste is excellent in nearly every aspect, from its perfect controls & loads of bonus levels to a stellar soundtrack & touching story. And it's pretty accessible too even with its high difficulty! This is a must play.

14. Paper Mario

This storybook take on Mario's world ingrained itself in my imagination of the Mushroom Kingdom. Small stat numbers and lots of badges to equip make for an approachable but customizable beginner's RPG. Partners make the battles, exploration, and world building even better!

13. Pac-Man Arrangement

My other favorite Pac-Man game, and another great expansion on the original fomula. The ghost fusion, power ups, and new maze gimmicks fit perfectly with the original mechanics. It has simultaneous multiplayer, too! I only wish there was more of it!

12. Sonic Mania

I think Sonic 3 is the BETTER game - it is absolutely more novel and evolutionary - but this "best of" title feels like MY Sonic game. Fantastic presentation, top tier Special Stages, and plenty of nods to series history tie together this loving recreation of Classic Sonic.

11. Super Mario Bros. 3

I might be a Mario World girlie, but SMB3 also deserves my admiration. What an astronomical leap from SMB1/Lost Levels! Refined controls, world maps with branching paths, dozens of levels, new powers, and a massive increase in scale! My favorite NES game by far.

10. Unpacking

Good on its own as a puzzle game, but it's the sound design and narrative that make this special. Mere peeks into a person's living spaces and the things she holds onto say so much, with only minimal text used. Incredibly effective storytelling and empathy building.

9. WarioWare Gold

As a compilation of various microgames from series history, this choice almost feels like cheating. But Gold is SUCH a love letter to WarioWare. The voice acted cutscenes, a rarity for Mario series games, are a delight, and I'm glad it's a series staple now!
