When everyone else checks out, let's check in.
Looking out for the boys & men in your life doesn't require grand gestures. It's noticing when "I'm fine" doesn't match what you see. It's naming that holidays can be hard. It's checking in now, not in January.

Right when collective energy says "deal with it later." Shorter days, heavier expectations—show up, give generously, perform joy.
For men already feeling alone, the gap between holiday cheer & reality widens. Distractions disappear. Men least likely to ask for help retreat further.

Are we creating an impossible situation for boys? Men who act without changing deserve scrutiny. But growth requires experimentation—trying on new ways of being, sometimes awkwardly. And hey, as Judith Butler said, isn't all #gender a performance anyway?

If we gather to create scenes depicting this, we might reinforce the ideas we're trying to dismantle. We might give credibility to Andrew Tate.
Performative allyship is real & causes harm. But if experimentation itself becomes a signal of fraud, how are young men supposed to grow?

It's tongue-in-cheek & we can laugh. But these contests expose a paradox: we ask boys to be vulnerable, reject toxic norms & care about feminist issues. Then we joke about their sincerity.
Central to manosphere ideology? Men who reject traditional norms become laughing stocks.

The impact compounds. The ripples spread. And we're just getting started.
Thank you for being part of this—for believing boys & men deserve better & can do better. For showing up, week after week, to build the world we know is possible.

Over eleven years, we've seen what happens when communities refuse to choose between empathy & accountability. Boys transform when held in connection & belonging. When adults show up with curiosity, not judgment. With understanding, not just expectations.

When boys experience less pain—not because we shield them from hard things, but because we help them build a full toolbox—we're also preventing harm.
When we create space for their full humanity, we do both at once.
That's the work. Not less pain or less harm. Both.

The pain: isolation, disconnection & barriers keeping men from getting help.
The harm: hurt & violence passed along when boys lack tools & relationships to hold them steady through life's ups & downs.
These aren't separate issues. They're two sides of the same coin.

Boys ARE the solutions in challenging harmful behaviour. They want healthy relationships. They're capable of incredible empathy & growth.
But they need adults willing to have harder conversations—about #respect, #consent & the difference between strength & dominance.

Not the shaming kind that pushes boys into isolation, but the kind that says: we see you, we know you're capable of better & we're going to help you get there.
The kind that creates space for boys to understand their impact while also addressing their own pain.

When boys are hurt—by #bullying, by impossible standards, by messages that tell them to shut down their #emotions —some pass that hurt along. Not because they're bad kids, but because hurt people hurt people.
This is where accountability becomes essential.

Physical violence, sexual harassment, bullying, deepfakes. And here's the part that should stop us: many boys who've recently used abusive behaviour have also experienced it themselves.
Pain & harm aren't separate issues. They're connected.

But here's hope: men DO care about their health. Barriers aren't about neglect—they're about systems, services & social norms that haven't caught up.
This is why movements like Movember matter. Why work like ours, supported by communities like yours, creates the change we need.

Movember just released The Real Face of Men's Health 2025. The findings are sobering: nearly 75,000 Canadian men died prematurely in 2023, most from preventable causes. Indigenous men face particularly stark health inequities. Men account for 75% of suicides in Canada.

The stoic face. The tough exterior. The "I'm fine" & "I don't care" when they're not & they do.
Here's our challenge: how do we give boys as much encouragement to take off their masks year-round as we give them to put one on for Halloween?

We've always needed permission slips—moments when the world looks away just long enough to exhale.
If Halloween gives #boys permission to express themselves freely, what does that tell us about the masks they wear the other 364 days?

History here: In the 1960s, when laws prohibited "cross-dressing" across the US, Halloween became sanctuary—particularly for #queer folks who could finally walk the streets as themselves, protected by a holiday that celebrated transgression instead of punishing it.
