I recently went on a family trip to Iceland. Earlier, I had read that Viking raids were driven by the search for fertile land, since much of Scandinavia was not well suited for agriculture. However, one of our guides suggested a different explanation:

Indian right-wing leaders in power are worsening relations with Bangladesh. It is hypocritical for them to support a liberal or secular leader like Sheikh Hasina when their own politics do not reflect those values. The decision to ban the Bangladesh cricket team appears driven more by petty ego.

Watched Eko half in Malayalam and half in Kannada. Kannada dubbing wasn’t all that bad so didn’t feel like switching back to Malayalam.

Ultimately, this is about purity—if we accept that human beings behave in similar ways when placed under similar conditions. There is nothing inherently moral about purity. In practice, it only produces yet another in-group, inevitably accompanied by every form of exclusion.
This isn't about moral purity or personal virtue. It's about facing reality.

Because moral progress begins with a willingness to look—especially when what we see is uncomfortable.

I increasingly doubt whether it is possible to convince these people that humanity does not depend on compassion for animals. On the contrary, historical experience with the caste system shows that compassion for animals can even operate against humanity—
We think of wars as the pinnacle of human violence. The numbers tell a different story.

Every year, humans slaughter around 80 billion animals. That's more suffering than all wars combined.

Isn’t “defiance” usually used when people without power resist? Those with power tend to “double down” instead.

I found this very strange. It was as if Trump was projecting and Starmer was introjecting. What was the expectation here? It felt like a twisted apology on behalf of Trump, even though #Starmer was well aware that Trump would never do that himself.

Why is Trump fixated on Greenland? @sbg1.bsky.social recalls what he told us in 2021: "I said, 'Why don’t we have that?' You take a look at a map...I love maps. And I always said 'Look at the size of this, it’s massive and that should be part of the United States.'" www.newyorker.com/news/letter-...

There’s no Trump Doctrine, just a map of the world that the President wants to write his name on in big gold letters.

Random-assignment experiments confirm the causal role of putting temptations out of sight and out of reach.

Do rehabs really work if the temptations are easy to fulfil? Maybe Rob Reiner should have sent his son out of America to a country where drugs were fully banned and not easily available.
