I read these stories in Japanese (laboriously) a while ago. They are uncanny and really good. I think Ginny’s translation might be a bit too loyal but the stories are still uncanny and really good in English.

I’m texturizing a story about some shallow expatriate going to a Japanese funeral so, to add to my memories, I rewatched Osōshiki (The Funeral) Itami Jūzō, 1984. It is very good.
