I could cry just thinking about this. I'm struggling to get my kid into a program that will benefit him and not cost a fortune. We don't have many resources where we live.
This is his response to a prompt he was asked to write to hopefully get into the gifted program in my state. Only 15yo.
Prompt response from my kid to tell what he hopes to get from the gifted program. "School is largely a monotonous means to an end currently, though I still value what that represents: a structured path toward a higher education that I believe will fulfill me more deeply. I think, however, that the gifted program could not only help me reach that goal more efficiently, but also mirror the way I study independently (which “learning” is my most frequent passtime, just not learning for, or within, school). The two salient things that would help achieve this are: access to advanced or accelerated classes and more freedom to pursue what I'm intellectually passionate about–by that I mean the ability to do more independent writings and readings, and the ability to stray directly away from rote syllabi."

My niece, who has basically been my baby sister since my mom took her in at 3 months, graduated.

The world can be on fire but we still have these moments to look forward to.

That course is to help people struggling in math due to the shit leadership we had during COVID. I seem to remember it was some asshole painted orange. ANYWAY, that class isn't remedial since remedial means below college level. Nice try though 😜
