On this day in 1966, pirate station Radio Hauraki broadcast its first scheduled transmission from beyond New Zealand’s 3-mile territorial limit, the birth of commercial radio in New Zealand.

It wasn't fancy but it was historic rugby, as Ireland rallied to defeat Australia 22-19 in Dublin in the final test match of the #AutumnNationsSeries, with this also being the match to celebrate the 150th Anniversary of the foundation of the IRFU in 1875.

45 years ago today, on 28 November 1979, Air New Zealand TE901 left Auckland, for a flight to Antarctica. At 12.49 pm NZST, the aircraft crashed into Mt Erebus killing all 237 passengers and 20 crew on board, the worst civil aviation disaster in New Zealand's history.
