My dragon fruit Block of the Month quilt is ready for final assembly and borders! I’m especially proud of my pattern alignment on the polka dots. Not perfect but close!

Working on the ombré stargazer quilt. It includes 680 HSTs. 345 cut, pressed, and trimmed so far. I can’t wait to see it all come together, but I really can’t wait to be done trimming

Working on the ombré stargazer quilt. All cutting was done a few weeks ago. Finished sewing the HST pairs after work today. Next up: trimming 680 HSTs 😬 this may take a while!

A few of my favorites from #quiltcon2025
Quilt titled Dignity by Veruschka Zarate An American Indian woman is pictured with a quilt held behind her. A quilt representation of the statue by DC Lamphere. Winner of best in show Beautiful intricate piecework! Artist statement: 360, double sided, FPP, Quilt of DC Lamphere's "Dignity" Statue, is a tribute to the fortitude of indigenous Peoples of this land. "Dignity stands as a sentinel, urging us with outstretched hands, wrapped in the powerful symbolism of a lone star quilt, to engage with esch other and the world around us with respect, unity and honor. "Dignity" stands as a reminder of our responsibility to each other and to the land we call home. A quilt titled The Glass Ceiling is Broken but the Ladders Aren't Fixed by Robin Thomas Many ladders in various colors are shown on a white background. The ladders are twisted, have broken or missing rungs, or do not reach the top Artist statement: I have spent my career in a traditionally male industry and had to fight for a seat at the table that my male colleagues got by showing up. Recently I found that the young female engineers who work for me are facing some of the same issues I faced when I started over 30 years ago. It made me realize that the glass ceilings are broken but the ladders to the top are still treacherous. This quilt got my vote for viewer’s choice Plus One by Debra Newhall An abstract shape in black is shown on a white background, with some of the sections made by the black abstract shape being filled with a teal color. The shape is vaguely floral to my eye Artist statement: Plus One is an exploration of black and white plus one more color. By limiting the palette of the piece, the focus of the quilt became shape and movement. I Dissent by Karin Rabe The words “with fear for our democracy, I dissent. Justice Sotomayor” are quilted into a background that evokes an American flag. The top left has angled quilting in blue and the rest of the piece has red and white horizontal lines of quilting Artist statement: These words in Justice Sonia Sotomayor's dissent of the Supreme Court's verdict in Trump v. United States struck at the heart of my feelings about the majority's decision in the presidential immunity case. As of this writing, exactly one week prior to the 2024 presidential election, our democracy has never seemed so fragile. On July 4th of 2024, instead of grilling or otherwise celebrating, I started this project to capture her words in textile.

I really love foundation paper piecing. It uses a paper template, and the fabric is sewn to the back of the paper, sewing along the lines on the paper, almost like sew by number. I like to leave the papers on until the blocks are sewn together to add stability
