I so desperately wish SKYFALL had featured the Brosnan’s Bond (who was imprisoned in North Korea and had a huge falling out with M in his last film!) as the villain.

In the way of detours, have you read miniseries "Turning Points"? Specifically #4 but the whole series is worthwhile: KNIGHTFALL (and other major Batman stories) from Gordon's perspective.
