Ah, brings back great memories of one of the bright spots of that time! 7IS forever!

I understand them in print dictionaries: it saves paper and avoids either increasing the size/page count of the dictionary or removing other words. But online, so often, it feels like the presentation of definitions cares more about the dictionary's database than the people looking up words.

When searching online, I find those one-line dictionary definitions mostly referring to a different word to be infuriating. Why not show me the definition of THAT word, too?!? Why make me jump through hoops to find the meaning of the word I'm looking up in terms I understand?

I started because I looked up a word that was unfamiliar to me. And the definition was "another term for [a word I recognized, but was not completely certain of its definition]."

I still think there's room for improvement, especially on a computer screen (or has time marched on to the point where those of us who use computers other than phones are dinosaurs?)

I feel stupid. What name didn't I search for? The guest's name. Definitely transphobia. So at least I don't have to worry about "was it or wasn't it?" - Given how much this has derailed my day, I'm very much considering just dropping the series. No need to fool me twice.

I think where I am is: the specific series is on thin ice with me: I think this was the first episode for me, and if that sort of thing recurs soon, I'll unsubscribe from the podcast as (at the very least) not for me. But… I'm not going to deep-dive looking for transphobia.

Well, I found a transcript. It makes clear that the things I'm most worried about come from the guest. And, given the description of the podcast, I shouldn't expect to agree with all their guests.

I'm wondering whether I want to look through episode titles/description to see if I find any episodes directly on the topic. Or just wait until the topic comes up on a future episode? And… how will I respond if I find something? (sigh)

Fortunately, it was the guest and not the host that said the things that worried me. But it definitely means I'll be continuing to evaluate the fairly-new-to-me podcast series and the fairly-new-to-me network of podcasts it's associated with.

(By "too carefully," I mean that she was obviously trying to avoid saying something that would cause a blowback, but I couldn't understand for certain what point she was actually trying to make for certain. It also wasn't directly related to the main topic of the episode, and as the episode ended.)
